There is a great article over at CNET News about a website from Florida State University that shows images of graphics that chip designers have put in unused areas on microchips. From the exhibit, it appears it has been a common practice at HP and several other tech companies for years. It shows everything from a Pepsi bottle to Where’s Waldo.
I could see how this could be entertaining from a designers perspective, but what about the legal ramifications from putting someone else’s trademark on millions of chips that you sold for money, even if the end user will never see it?
I’ve been wanting new speakers for my computer for a long time. The current set is an el-cheapo that I got with my original computer back in ~1997.
